Lee Jae Myung stands as a powerful symbol of hope and resilience. His journey from a factory worker to the President of the Republic of Korea reflects a life shaped by determination, advocacy, and a commitment to social justice. His leadership has emphasised equality, opportunity, and building a more inclusive society for all, while pursuing pragmatic and principled leadership.

Born on December 22, 1964, in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, Lee grew up as the fifth of seven siblings in a financially challenging household. At the age of 13, he left formal education and began working in factories in Seongnam City. Despite difficult working conditions, he continued his studies independently, passed the high school equivalency examination, and earned a law degree from Chung-Ang University in 1986. At the age of 23, he passed the Korean bar examination and completed judicial training in 1989.

Lee began his legal career as a human-rights lawyer, advocating for workers and vulnerable communities. He was active in civic organisations focused on economic justice, transparency, and anti-corruption.

Entering public office, Lee served as Mayor of Seongnam City from 2010 to 2018 and subsequently as Governor of Gyeonggi Province from 2018 to 2021, gaining national recognition for his welfare-oriented policies and emphasis on transparent administration.

Lee was elected to the National Assembly in 2022 and served as Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea from 2022 to 2025. In 2025, he was elected the 21st President of the Republic of Korea.

Beyond public life, Lee enjoys hiking, playing Go, fishing, reading, and walking. Guided by his personal motto, “Do your best and leave the rest to fate,” he continues to emphasise resilience, personal growth, and social responsibility.
